United for Uganda is ready and eager to come alongside missionaries in Uganda to serve God and people. 

When we met Tim and Colleen Stevenson, they were already immersed in the work God had for them in Uganda.  They were getting it done!   It registers with all who hear their story that God really can and does do miraculous work through those submitted to His leading.  God has used the Stevensons to facilitate much change in Uganda and provide hope for so many of the people.  Each of us at U4U felt the gentle pull of God's Spirit calling us to join the mission. And now we invite YOU to join us!

Meet the Stevensons

Serving Uganda since 1985

United for Uganda is thankful for our partnership with Tim and Colleen who have faithfully served in Uganda for 38 years and counting. Both Tim and Colleen were raised in neighboring African countries. In fact, Colleen’s parents, Stan and Marion Hoffman, were the first Church of God missionaries in Uganda. The Church of God, East African (Uganda) can trace its roots to the Hoffman's work that began in the 1980s.  

 

Tim and Colleen are inspirational leaders and U4U is excited to support them in this next chapter. In addition to their work, Tim and Colleen are parents to four children and grandparents to three sweet grandchildren.

Building the First School

 

Tim and Colleen went to Uganda on a Special Assignment in 1985, sent by the German Church of God to develop a school. This was to be a two-year stint.  However,  when the Stevensons realized there were no replacements coming, they stayed. And, they’ve been developing solutions there for over 3 decades.

Building on Opportunities

The solution-oriented approach of the Stevensons is something that U4U admires. Early on there were few resources but an abundance of opportunities, and Tim and Colleen were willing to do the work.  They recognize themselves as developmentals- people who view problems as possibilities and have the ability to create the needed solutions. And they’re not afraid to get creative! For example, they have found that sometimes pigs are helpful. That’s right, Colleen helped a young boy to thrive in school by giving him the responsibility of caring for a drove of pigs!  Another example is the resourcefulness the Stevensons showed during Covid. They worked until they were on the list of those who were allowed to move around and visit villages during the pandemic. Their persistence led to ministry opportunities during a dark time of isolation for the Ugandan people.   There are countless examples of the Stevensons stepping up to challenges and trusting God as He makes a way.  They’ve planted churches, built wells, started several ministry projects and programs, and partnered with organizations like Compassion International.

The Stevensons' time in Uganda has been fruitful.

From 1985-2023

  • 200 schools have been opened

  • Thousands of children have been sponsored

  • 600 churches have been planted

  • 5 medical clinics have been built

  • 1 International School was opened

Building on Legacy

The Stevensons have a rich history of working with the local community. United for Uganda is stepping in to support the Stevensons as they build on these foundations to train the next generation of leaders for the Church of God, East Africa. 

 

U4U is committed to supporting Tim and Colleen financially and allowing others the opportunity to be involved. The Stevensons work in many facets of life in Uganda; their passion for this community inspires a variety of projects.

 

The Stevensons work at broad levels with many connections. Their commitment to following God is one of the key reasons U4U has partnered with them. We aren’t interested in just doing one thing, we want to impact Uganda in the biggest way possible. By supporting the Stevensons, along with our support of T.A.P.P., Core Discipleship, and Vocational Sponsorship, we are answering God’s call to serve the Ugandan people in a variety of ways. Our goal is to show them that God’s family provides!
