Church of God ministry at the Mutungo site began quite humbly in 2011, with the purchase of a parcel of land and a small home intended for use as jjajja (elder) housing.  Over the years, groups from Canada, Germany and the USA provided the resources necessary to purchase additional land and build a church.  A TAPP program was established at the site and sewing lessons were eventually offered to expand the types of client projects available.   To help meet the need for lower cost training opportunities, sponsored kids interested in tailoring  were invited to study at Mutungo – and the vocational training program was born!

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

Colossians 3:23-24

Igniting Hope

Since its inception, the vocational training program has expanded to encompass the five courses of study shown below and several additional training sites.  To date, about 350 young adults have participated in the program, and the majority are currently employed, providing critical support for themselves and their families.  Recognizing the growing need for vocational education, United for Uganda has formalized its commitment to help open doors to brighter futures through active support of this program.  Most participants have no other viable avenue to secure meaningful employment, making this program a beacon of hope and possibility.

Each vocational track spans 2 years, providing in-depth, hands-on learning designed to equip students with the expertise needed to thrive in their chosen field.  The financial investment in each student reflects the comprehensive nature of program.  Upon graduation, these young adults emerge with marketable skills, a starter set of career-relevant tools (e.g., sewing machine, cookware, etc.) to help equip them for success, and hope for a promising future.

Fulfilling Dreams

“Thank you for all the things you have done for me.  I am doing very well in hair dressing, learning different styles of hair.  This will help me with my family to support them … Thank you so much for the support, for giving me a chance to dream again.  I thought life had ended, but then I met you and this organization.”

“I take this opportunity to give thanks for all the contributions you have made to support me either academically or spiritually … I had stopped going to church but because of the sponsorship program, we have a church at school where it has helped me a lot spiritually.  I do church work like cleaning, singing, ushering … I want to thank you very much for making me to be at school.  I had lost hope …”

“Thank you so much for sponsoring me with tailoring skills … I never knew that I could even make it  … With time, I came to pick up the idea and I started enjoying what I was doing and now am so proud of what I became.  Because now I am able to make different fashions like shirt, trousers, dresses and many others.”

Changing Lives

U4U invites you to join with us in changing the trajectories of individual lives and strengthening communities through the vocational sponsorship program.  Many young Ugandans are eagerly waiting to receive the news that a sponsor has stepped forward to provide the financial support they need to begin their training.  Will you unite with us in extending the love of Christ in this way?

Timely Opportunity

We are gearing up to add training in small engine repair as our next vocational track.  In a country heavily dependent on boda bodas (motorcycle taxis) for transportation, these skills will lead to abundant employment opportunities.  To kick-start the program, at least 5 sponsors are needed to support the young adults eager to begin training.  For more information, please e-mail Jen (jen@united4uganda.org).
